The limited choice for strict vegetarians is well cooked and goes well with steamed rice. The restaurant staff wear the best smiles and make a genuine effort to converse in English while others struggle to do so especially the housekeeping and room service staff. Best way to make them understand English words is to spell it for them...this makes it easier as their accent is very different. The hotel has an interior with an imposing Gold color including the rooms. This gives a glittering effect which makes one feel like being in a leisure hotel, though I found quite a few business men (including us). The City of Guangzhou has many attractions (apart from businesses) and one boat ride on the Pearl River at night gives a flavor of its richness. A must see. The taxi service is quite reliable and affordable. The ride to the airport takes about an hour (under normal traffic conditions) and costs about 120-150 RMB. This is my first visit to Guangzhou and China too, overall it had been a very pleasant with not many surprises. Definitely impressed with the infrastructure and progress this Country is making and driving its businesses all over the world.; Value: 4 Rooms: 3 Location: 2 Cleanliness: 4 Service: 3

Stayed two nights in three superior rooms at Triumph Wing. What is unusual is a bathing compartment that provides different shower possibilities - hand held shower rose, fixed shower directly above the head, and sprinklers at the side. A steam bath can be had inside at the press of the button. Although it claims to be a five-star hotel, there is no swimming pool nor a gym associated with that status. For the price of RMB380 per night per room, I guess I'm not complaining except for the strong odour of tobacco lingering in the room - an irritant for most non-smokers in many venues in Guangzhou.; Value: 4 Rooms: 2 Location: 2 Cleanliness: 4 Service: 2

Was given a room in the back building overlooking a wall. The location was close to most business offices which was good and there was a free bus to the tradefair. This hotel is well decorated but not well maintained. My room had stains on the carpet and there was this pungent smell across the hall way. The staff wasn't very attentive and the breakfast buffet was poorly made. the orange juice wasn't fresh either. During my stay, two staff members were very rude to me. I have stayed in three other hotels in guangzhou and this by far is the worst. Meant for the business traveller, this hotel's decor looks more suited in Disneyland than in the business district in one of the most important economic centres of China! I cannot rave about the service standard, as it is pretty standard fare for any Chinese-managed hotel. In fact, some of the quirks of Chinese-managed hotels remain -- the lack of smiles, the occasional brilliance in pleasing guests but the regular blank look on the faces of the service staff. But hold, the lobby of the hotel can sweep any jaded traveller off his feet! Such opulence it borders on obscenity. The drive to look, act and be Versailles France is REALLY over the top. Even the doormen wore 18th century period costume! And everything from the doors to the door knob are in period style. Yet the feel is somewhat tacky, because you KNOW these are fakes and fabrications. The contrived nature of the hotel's decor notwithstanding, I must say the facilities are more than adequate for the business traveller. The internet speed was fast and the business centre well equipped. At the end of a day of rigorous meetings, it's nice to retreat to the room and enjoy a nice, hot bath in the pseudo-jacuzzi bath tub. A nice bottle of champagne will complete the wonderful picture, but alas, the price tag for the Moet and Chandon was prohibitive... Because it's located in the Tianhe business district, and most of my meetings were in the vincinity, I find the location fine. I didn't have time to do any leisurely stuff, except for some last-minute shopping at the lobby gift shop (very expensive!). But if you're going to see some of the attractions of this city such as Shamian Island and Chen Family Temple, the hotel is far away from the traditional heart of activities. Then again, taxis are fairly cheap in Guangzhou and the traffic is not as maddening as in unmanageable Beijing or crowded Shanghai. The metro also zips you to the centre of town relatively fast, though there's some walking in between. All in all, I will recommend this hotel for its newness and facilities. But if you come thinking that this is a place full of character and class, you'd be sorely disappointed.; Value: 4 Rooms: 5 Cleanliness: 4 Service: 3
