The Sheraton Xian Hotel is adjacent to the west second ring road, only minutes away from the New Xian Developing Zone of High Technology Industries and 45 minutes from the Xian Xianyang International Airport. The Bell Tower and Drum Tower are in the city center, six kilometers from the Sheraton, and Xian is also surrounded by and ancient city wall, three kilometers from this hotel.

The Sheraton Xian Hotel is a striking high-rise building featuring a large and modern lobby with marble floors, marble-carved mural paintings, extensive seating areas and beautiful chandeliers. At a distance of 4.5Km or so (straight line till the Bell Tower) far from downtown, you’d better not even try to think to walk there, especially because what you’d get is just noise, pollution and nothing really interesting to see around you for most of the street. "Well, what's the problem? Just take a taxi!" you may say. Right, but if taxis are relatively always available (on a rainy Monday evening around 20:00, five minutes to wait in front of the main hall, and we were just the second ones in the row!) on the way downtown, coming back could be sort of a challenge. It's not easy to find a free taxi, close to the restaurant/area you've chosen to spend your evening, as apparently there are no exposed fixed locations for taxis downtown. I mean, you cannot simply queue in a place and be sure that sooner or later someone will drive you back. Finding a free taxi could really take more than half an hour, especially if the weather is not helping. This long intro just to stress that maybe, to visit the city, you may want to choose an hotel in a better location. This said, now come the good things. In addition to the “usual suspects” you expect to find in such a chain-hotel (international flair, catchy furniture modern/oriental-but-not-too-much, easy-listening music, ... – this time no internal fountain though – ....) here you have all of this but slightly more enhanced w.r.t. comparably priced hotels in other locations. Breakfast: very nice and rich, plenty of choices of dished, local and international. Rooms: very clean even though not particularly roomy. If you have more than two suitcases, you may be in trouble as you wouldn't know where to put your clothing (and I mean in a double room!). A special mention goes to the hotel staff: very kind and smiling, but smiling in a way which looks more human/genuine, and not so artificial as in all the other hotels/restaurants in China (according to my previous experience in Beijing and Shanghai). Most of them speak also a very decent English, and do not give you the impression that you are for them just another problem in their long-working day... the staff manager did a very good job in let you feel “served” from the staff, in the good sense of the term. That’s one of the things you pay for in hotels, and very seldom you really get it. Here it’s the case. The hotel bar and restaurant are both worth visiting, especially the latter (very good buffet dinner for a very fair price). Pool and fitness center: nothing special, particularly the latter, but they are there, waiting for you ... no spa in the hotel. Overall I'd say that this is one of the best Sheraton I slept in, especially considering what you get for what you pay. I'd recommend it, if the location issue is not a problem for you.; Value: 4 Rooms: 4 Location: 2 Cleanliness: 4 Service: 5

Way over priced because all it really seems to have are tourists. I came to Xi'an here a few years ago with my mum (we stayed in the bell tower hotel) and then again with both parents last year when we stayed at the Sheraton. I had read the mixed reviews and was weary. Now it is my turn to add to them. The staff at the hotel are very nice and I couldn't fault them. Also the buffet breakfast and dinner were insanely generous and delicious and after breakfasts like that, well all skipped lunch every day. But it is sorely in need of a refit - the first rooms we had were gross (smelled very strongly of cigarettes and a bit of something else I couldn't put my finger on) and we asked to change, which was a bit of a 麻烦. For the price, the rooms should have been much better, and much much better hotels can be found in beijing for example for less (oakwood residences for example). Also the pool, gym and spa all seemed really really run down and I expected alot more. The pool was also not big enough for such a large and popular hotel. Went to check it out and it was rammed. Didn't think too much of the location either, although taxis were cheap into the old town. Xi'an has a couple of great things, but in general is a weird town that is quite a rip off, and I'm afraid this hotel (other than the buffet restaurant which was, as I say, of exceptionally high quality) falls into the latter half of that description; Value: 2 Rooms: 2 Location: 3 Cleanliness: 3 Service: 5

Location is ok, not too far from the walled city center. However, in Xian you got to use a taxi/driver to go everywhere, unless you book a tour. Hotel looks ok from outside, but inside it's old and tired. Rooms have very old a/c units located inside the room, bathrooms are small with holes in the door for vents (so make sure you run the water if you..), carpet is old, curtains are old, windows dirty, and noises from the hallways easily penetrate the door. Employees seem to use vacant rooms for sleeping and breaks, and heavy construction was going on during our stay which made things very noisey during the day time. Breakfast buffet was ok, but the cooks did not really know how to make eggs to order, and the staff seemed a bit unorganized too. Then, again Xian is supposedly a developing city. Nothing to eat or buy around the hotel, so you are stuck eating at the hotel or taking a taxi to someplace. Streets around hotel are dark at night.
