Staff are courteous, speak good English, and happy to help. Pillows on the beds are just lovely! It was previously "THE" 5 stars hotel in Shenzhen, being a Hilton some years ago. In the lobby, you can see the names of VIPs who were hosted in this hotel: just to name one, George Bush (father) came here while he was President. Sad to say that since than, no renew has been made in the hotel structure. Rooms are old, service is good although staff doesn't speak fluent english (common in Shenzhen)... Nothing special the buffet restaurant, there are 50 better ones spread all over Shenzhen. I found the english levels of the staff to be very good and the best of any chinese hotel i have stayed in outside of beijing. It is across the road from the train station and 80 metres from the pick up and drop off point for the airport shuttle bus so the location is hard to beat. The hotel has not been updated since it was built; upon stepping into...[More]; While the hotel may rate itself as a 5 star establishment, the quality is equivalent to, at best, a North American 3 star chain. The hotel has not been updated since it was built; upon stepping into the lobby, you will be hit with a damp/musky smell and outdated decoration. Non-smoking rooms are on the 20th and 21st floors. Room is basic and the bathroom is clean enough. Once again though, the damp/musky smell persists and outdated furnishings outfit the room. There are challenges: the bed is not comfortable as it does not provide lumbar support; and, while the air conditioner works, it does not provide consistent air flow and temperature control. The hotel staff was pleasant enough, though be careful with the restaurant Lok Moon and the spa on the 8th floor. Lok Moon's service was slow, though the food is decent enough - not too salty or oily like most other restaurants. Small appetizer dishes, of cold cucumber and tofu, will be placed on your table which you can refuse or you will be automatically charged $10 RMB. The spa on the 8th floor is not the most hygenic . Right across from the train station, this hotel is easily accessible by those coming in from Hong Kong. However, it is quite isolated and it can feel quite unsafe walking outside at night. You're better off staying in another area if you're looking shopping and busier nightlife. There is a small convenience store beside the hotel, which will take advantage of the fact that there are no other stores close by, that you are a tourist, and that you will basically have to pay whatever amount they feel like charging you at.; Value: 3 Rooms: 2 Location: 3 Cleanliness: 3 Service: 2
